A quote from Rainier Lamers, MGL Avionics CEO.

"I don't think Dynon and MGL should be directly compared as this would be the same as comparing a horse with a sheep. Both have four legs but they are made for a different purpose (in a manner of speaking) and are made in a different way.

This is the main reason why you have two camps and each camp is exactly right and has made the right choice.

The closest we have to a Dynon is the XTreme but even this does more (like built in GPS, SD card reader etc). As for the other, larger systems it is kind of silly to compare. The MGLs are made to cover a specific range of missions and to give capabilities that extend into the more advanced functionalities - but with all of this, you decide what you need and what you don't.

The Dynons are very basic and offer almost no advanced functionality, apart from the new AP interface and a basic CDI that can display certain NAV from external instruments. This does not mean they are in any way worse - it's just that these instruments too are made to cater for a certain mission or range of applications and within this brief they do it as well as anything else."
