Eucomis
This family offers some strikingly exotic looking subjects for the summer/early autumn garden, in both borders and containers. They are usually classed as non-hardy but we have found them to be reliable in our borders for the last ten years or more, some seeding themselves around happily also. In pots, they detest being left out in winter wet and are best left to dry out in a shed until spring.
